ORVUS W A PASTE

What is ORVUS? I may be the last quilter on earth to discover this gem of a soap- well, maybe not the last because of new quilters to come. Actually, Bryne discovered it while on the internet one day.

It’s officially called ORVUS W A PASTE The label states it’s “the original gentle and bright clean, Ideal for cleaning horses, livestock, pets, quilts and delicate fabrics Trusted since 1932.”

The label goes into length talking about bathing horses, quilts, all kinds of delicate fabrics. You use very little in the washer- 1 or 2 ounces per load. Another endorsement on the label- recommended by the Horse Journal, American Quilter’s Society and Veterinarians. It’s ph neutral, biodegradable, bleach and phosphate free and hypoallergenic.

Bryne came home one day with a 7.5lb jar. I know, 1 or 2 ounces a load, it will last forever. And it just might. He got it at the feed store here in Reno. Lately I’ve seen small packets of it at JoAnn Fabrics.

I belong to the quilters’ school of prewash/dry/steam press all fabric before starting a project. I have to tell you, this soap is amazing for the prewash. All presence of sizing is gone and the fabric is soft. When it comes out of the dryer is it less wrinkled- a definite plus for the ironing step. I can’t tell you how happy I am with this soap.

But wait- there’s more! This past Friday evening I bathed both my stinky, filthy dogs with ORVUS. We put 1 tablespoon ORVUS in a 12oz bottle and filled it with water. My dogs are larger- 70 and 85 pounds. They are Pitbull mixes so their fur is short. That 12oz bottle bathed both bogs with about 1 ounce left. It took very little soap to work a lather. The soap does not have any detectable smell and rinsed completely clean very quickly. Both dogs were wonderfully clean and their coats dried to a wonderful soft, shiny feel.

So once again, ORVUS has happily surprised me! Find it and try it!
